The biker
Hannes is worried. A member of the Executive Board has just been elected who is several years younger than he is. When he looks at himself in the mirror in the morning, there is no denying that he is gradually approaching the 50th anniversary of his birth. Wrinkles can be smiled away, hair can be darkened with paint if necessary, but the steadily growing circumference just above the waistline can no longer be explained away. After reading a relevant specialist article on the midlife crisis, it is clear to Hannes: before he slides into it, effective and sustainable countermeasures must be developed.
For hours he consults guidebooks and blogs on the Internet. Then he decides to do sports. It's good for his mental and physical health. Now it's time to look for the right type of sport. After further research in Men's Health and lifestyle magazines results: Hannes becomes a biker. Not just profane "biking", no, that's for tourists in the lowlands. Hannes decides on real and sportive biking. Biking is the sport for the modern man!
As a manager, Hannes knows that no project can do without a goal. "Goals should not be set too modestly", is Hannes' experience from his practice. And what works there should also work for his bike project. For him it is clear that he also wants to aim for ambitious targets here. For example, the annual Alpine Bikeathlon is held to separate the fit from the top fit. In five days across the Swiss mountains and cumulatively with a few thousand meters of altitude. That is a

Announcement and challenge at the same time. To be a tad more concrete, Hannes is planning to participate in the Alpen-Bikeathlon next summer and is aiming for the first quarter of the ranking list.
A solid project must be cleanly planned. Saving time and money here would be wrong. The first thing to do is procure the materials. Hannes goes from specialist dealer to specialist dealer, gets advice on the nature of frame material and transmission technology as well as subtleties in the braking systems of modern bikes and rides about ten models to test them. He finally decides on a Roadrunner Ultimate with a carbon frame and high-end braking system. The right outfit should not be missing either. The gym shorts from college and an old advertising T-shirt from the 90s are no longer acceptable. So he buys a racing suit Bike-Passion with integrated ventilation system in fashionable colours at the specialist shop. The DVD "Efficiency in pedal pressure" shows Hannes on his PC impressively which movement sequences he should internalize in detail.
Basically, Hannes is aware that he does sport for himself and his health. But as in every field, sport is not only about doing good, but also about talking about it. The environment should perceive that one(s) is with the people. He already screws the luggage bike rack onto the roof of his car. Of course not a cheap model from the hardware store, but real quality goods. This rack stays on the roof so that everyone in the underground garage of his company understands that Hannes is biking so intensively that it is not worthwhile to remove the rack each time. In addition, it seems absolutely important that he informs his colleagues about his plans during the common breaks. And of course "by the way" he sometimes leaves a PC printout about "XXL bike tours" in the printer. He is already happy when he can answer the question "Whose printout is this?" in the open-plan office with "mine! Well, marketing isn't everything - but without marketing, everything is nothing.
After weeks of goal-setting and planning, the time has come to put his bike and all its equipment through a field test. Hannes puts the bike on the car, puts on his figure-hugging racing gear and drives to the countryside. No sooner has he parked at the edge of the forest than a barking, sharp dog approaches - with walkers in tow. The mutt looks as if thinking, "Ah, another biker, great calves, looking forward to biting into it!"
Basically, Hannes is aware that he is doing the sport for himself and his health.
Hannes remains sitting in the car. The prospect of a closer meeting with the dog does not appeal to him at all. He has not thought through this scenario. He stops the exercise immediately and drives home to look for an internet article about "the coexistence of dogs and bikers". He's glad to still be able to close this planning gap and says consolingly, "Especially with such important projects, you really don't have to rush things."
