Getting to know technical careers for women

Women's careers: To mark its 25th anniversary, the Swiss Association of Women Engineers is launching the exhibition "I am an Engineer". Siemens Switzerland is the main partner of the event and is presenting a special program to show how creative women are in technical and scientific professions.

Finding skilled workers is one thing, managing a company for optimal women's careers - the other: In the context of technological developments such as digitalisation and Industry 4.0, it is not only STEM skills (mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and technology) that are essential in order to be able to participate in the associated growth impulses.
It is equally crucial that women can exert influence in their actions: They should contribute to the challenges of our society with their own ideas. The Swiss Association of Women Engineers (SVIN) has around 350 members - female engineers from all disciplines as well as female computer scientists, mathematicians, physicists and related professional groups.

The organization aims to increase the attractiveness of the engineering profession for women, to act as a platform for the exchange of experience and opinions, and to promote networking among female engineers. Another central objective is to motivate young women for the engineering profession.

The 25th anniversary of the SVIN will take place during this year's SVIN General Assembly on Friday, 31 August 2018 at Siemens Switzerland in Zurich. The exhibition "I am an engineer" will be opened at the anniversary ceremony. In addition to a retrospective and outlook on the SVIN by President Dr. Andrea Kennel, various female Siemens employees will present their careers in technical professions.
