SwissSign certificates recognised throughout the EU
SwissSign, a subsidiary of Swiss Post specialising in trusted digital certificates, is now compliant for the provision of certification services in Liechtenstein. SwissSign is thus laying the foundations for the EU regulation on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market (eIDAS).
At the end of June 2016, SwissSign notified the provision of certification services in Liechtenstein and can thus immediately issue qualified certificates for legally valid electronic signatures that are recognised throughout the EU. SwissSign achieved this, among other things, by founding a subsidiary in the EEA member state of Liechtenstein. In addition to recognition within the EU and the EEA area, SwissSign is also certified in accordance with the Swiss Signature Act ZertES as well as ISO 27001 and meets the requirements of the globally valid WebTrust guidelines.
A step towards the EU
Companies can now benefit even more from increased legal certainty for their digital processes supported with SwissSign certificates. In addition to a new regulation of electronic signatures, this also includes services relating to electronic seals and time stamps, the delivery of electronic registered mail and website certificates. The revision of the Swiss Signature Act (ZertES) approved by the Federal Council, which will come into force in 2017, is closely aligned with the new eIDAS Regulation.
However, due to the lack of bilateral agreements between Switzerland and the EU in this area, certificates produced under Swiss law are not automatically recognised by EU states.
"With this big step towards the EU and EEA, we are offering our customers at home and abroad added value in the form of legal security across borders," says a delighted Urs Fischer, CEO of SwissSign AG. SwissSign offers digital certificates for servers and devices - SSL and Device Zertifikate -, for individuals, authorities and companies as individual products or as Managed PKI Certificate Services. Other SwissSign offerings include timestamp and signature services. SwissSign is a company of Swiss Post and a member of the "swiss made software" label.
