Swisslog wins the "Industry Award 2016" with Automated Item Pick

The human-robot picking solution "Automated Item Pick (AIP)" from Swisslog was awarded the 2016 Industry Prize. Under the motto "With progress to success", AIP came out on top as the most innovative solution with the greatest economic and social benefits in the "Intralogistics & Production Management" category.

At the heart of the award-winning Swisslog Automated Item Pick solution is the LBR iiwa lightweight robot from KUKA, equipped with state-of-the-art sensor technology and a 7-axis gripper arm.

Whether in e-commerce, the pharmaceutical industry, in spare parts logistics or in the supply of industrial assembly lines: Everywhere, the trend towards ever smaller batch sizes must be met with reliable and efficient solutions. To master this balancing act, Swisslog relies on robot-assisted intralogistics concepts. The fully automated picking system Automated Item Pick (AIP) has now been awarded the "Industry Prize 2016″ in the category "Intralogistics & Production Management" at the Hannover Messe 2016.
The INDUSTRIEPREIS was awarded for the eleventh time by Huber Verlag für neue Medien. A renowned jury of professors, scientists, industry experts and trade journalists had reviewed the submitted applications and awarded the prize in a total of 14 categories.

"We are very pleased to have won the Industry Award 2016," says Dr. Christian Baur. "The award confirms our pioneering role in the integration of modern human-robot collaboration solutions in logistics. The cooperation between Swisslog and KUKA enables synergies at all levels. Ultimately, the customer benefits from intralogistics solutions that are more efficient, more flexible and smarter."

AIP enables significant efficiency gains
At the heart of the award-winning Swisslog Automated Item Pick solution is the LBR iiwa lightweight robot from KUKA, equipped with state-of-the-art sensor technology and a 7-axis gripper arm. Networked with automated "goods to person" storage systems such as AutoStore or CarryPick, it is able to assist humans with picking in the logistics application further developed by Swisslog, without the need for a boundary or fence between man and machine.

Automated Item Pick offers potential for significant increases in efficiency in general cargo picking. Order processing can be carried out significantly faster, more error-free and more flexibly thanks to intelligent human-robot collaboration. For companies, this opens up the opportunity to benefit from improved delivery quality and customer satisfaction.

Robot innovations in the spotlight
Industry 4.0 solutions such as the AIP are increasingly becoming the focus of modern material flow and logistics concepts thanks to the close cooperation between Swisslog and KUKA. The two companies are working together at full speed to further develop the AIP solution and will soon be presenting the technology in a first industrial application with a wide range of grippers. Also in the starting blocks is the robot-assisted material flow innovation "Automated Case Picking" - a logistics system equipped with state-of-the-art robot technology that has the ability to create mixed pallets fully automatically from several single-variety pallets.
