Survey: Spatial Plant Information as a Pioneer for Smart Cities?

As part of their activities, they collect and manage increasingly large volumes of data, with spatial plant information forming the backbone of this information: Plant operators are responsible for the functioning of extensive infrastructure facilities of a city or a municipality.

Plant information, actually geoinformation of the plants, can play a key role in the future-oriented development concept "Smart City", as many measures to be implemented for the establishment of a Smart City depend on this spatial data.

However, in order for spatial plant information to assume this key role, plant operators must first become aware of the importance of their spatial data for the development of smart cities and enable themselves to derive knowledge relevant to smart cities from their geoinformation. In this way, plants can better position themselves as relevant partners in the development of cities and municipalities towards smart cities and, depending on the legal situation, may even be able to occupy new business areas.

The specialist group "Works" of the Swiss Organisation for Geoinformation (SOGI) therefore considers a further deepening of the topic in dialogue with the works operators to be very sensible and is launching a survey on the basis of the white paper.
