Successfully on the way to Industry 4.0
At the 7th Effective Factory Forum in Bad Pyrmont, organized by MPDV Mikrolab GmbH, a manufacturer of MES systems, more than 120 decision-makers from the German manufacturing industry learned about practical approaches to making their own production fit for Industry 4.0 on November 10, 2016. One highlight was the keynote speech by Ranga Yogeshwar.
"We are the first generation that can shape its own present," Ranga Yogeshwar encouraged the event's participants. Germany's best-known science journalist enthralled the audience with his keynote address "Next Exit Future - Our Approach to the New" at the 7th Effective Factory Forum. According to this, the period between the announcement of innovations and their implementation on the market has now shortened to such an extent that companies will be able to profit from the disruptive changes for the foreseeable future. Industry 4.0 is a current example of this.
Successful to Industry 4.0
Jürgen Petzel, Director Sales MES Solutions at MPDV, then used a simple four-step model to explain how manufacturing companies can safely and purposefully benefit from the new approaches of Industry 4.0 while avoiding unnecessary missteps. "The secret to your success is to first ensure transparency on the shop floor. Based on this, you ensure the responsiveness of your production and only then do you deal with topics such as self-regulation and functional networking." Markus Berghammer, who is responsible for the Factory Automation vertical market at Phoenix Contact, used his experience in his own production to explain which technologies and methods are needed to take advantage of the new opportunities. An important basis for new business models is data that is collected, for example, with a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) such as HYDRA from MPDV. He attached particular importance to the correlation of data.
Industry 4.0 in practice and science
To deepen the approaches and impulses presented, the participants had the opportunity to visit Phoenix Contact's state-of-the-art electronics production facility in Bad Pyrmont. Experts from the respective areas answered specific questions about the implementation of Industry 4.0.
Finally, as a further perspective on Industry 4.0, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Kreimeier, academic director at the Chair of Production Systems at Ruhr University Bochum, presented the current APPsist research project. According to this, the use of intelligent assistance and learning systems on the shop floor promises versatile benefits and further flexibility for modern manufacturing companies.
Success concept Forum Effective Factory
Looking back on the seventh edition of the Effective Factory Forum, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Kletti, Managing Partner of MPDV Mikrolab GmbH, sums up: "Together with the previous events, we have now welcomed more than 1,700 participants to the Effective Factory Forum. In this context, I would not like to claim without pride that the event format has developed more and more over the years into an important industry meeting place for decision-makers." The participants of the event also shared this view and articulated this in extremely positive feedbacks such as "very inspiring keynote", "many open questions were answered concretely" or "overall great event".
