Strategies for suitable spare parts

Particularly in the case of long-life capital goods, as is frequently the case in mechanical and plant engineering, aerospace, rail and commercial vehicles, electronic components are often no longer available shortly after the end of series production. Appropriate spare parts management helps.

However, it is precisely here that companies are dependent on keeping the means of production intact for as long as possible. They therefore often incur immense costs for maintenance.

So-called obsolescence management is crucial, especially for SMEs. There are various approaches to counter obsolescence. One option is long-term storage or final stockpiling. Furthermore, it is possible to carry out remanufacturing and to refurbish a subassembly oneself.

There are many efficient ways to use spare parts. The Fraunhofer Project Group "Regenerative Production" is in the process of developing new strategies in a guideline together with the Cooperation Network Electronics Replenishment (E-NV) and Amsys GmbH.
