Siemens Fire Safety Award for the best safety specialists

Every two years, Siemens awards the Siemens Fire-Safety Prize to the best graduating safety specialists from Swiss hospitals, clinics, retirement and nursing homes. Siemens thus honors specialists who can master emergencies.

This year's Siemens Fire Safety Award went to Daniel Moncada from French-speaking Switzerland and Thomas Haas from German-speaking Switzerland. The prize highlights their achievements at the specialist examination. Safety specialists from all over Switzerland officially completed their training on 9 June 2017. This means that from now on they are responsible for the security installations of their hospitals, clinics, retirement and nursing homes.

Special challenges

Emergencies and disasters are particularly difficult to cope with in these facilities. In addition to emergency situations such as IT crashes, power outages or fires, there are additional challenges for security specialists at a hospital or home: Radioactive radiation and medical gases are used in hospitals, and evacuation and escape are particularly difficult for hospital occupants.

In addition, the hospital must be able to respond to situations in which many patients need to be cared for at once, for example in the event of a storm, an epidemic or a major event.

Finished with a grade of 5.4

Thirty men and women from the German-speaking and French-speaking parts of Switzerland have passed the federal vocational examination. The presentation of their professional certificates was celebrated at the Spitalzentrum Biel in order to take into account the two national languages of the participants. The congratulatory speeches were also held in both German and French. Mark Bringold, Head of Fire Safety and Security in the Bern, Basel and Lucerne area of Siemens Building Technologies, presented the Siemens Fire Safety Award to the best graduates.

Olivier Jaques from the Maison d'accueuil Praz-Soleil in Châteaux d'Oex and Thomas Haas from the Stephanshorn Clinic in St. Gallen achieved the best grades of 5.4 and 5.3 respectively. Mark Bringold presented them with the prize of 600 Swiss francs. The presentation of the Siemens Fire Safety Award has become a tradition.
