New ISO specification on animal welfare

Comprehensive protection and care of a farm animal means respecting its physical and "mental" needs. Because certain areas of agriculture offer less and less suitable and reasonable means in animal food production, the ISO/TS 34700:2016 standard is now being implemented.

Consumers are increasingly concerned about the crude treatment of animals. At the same time, it is obvious to everyone that human well-being is indispensably linked to the quality and safety of food from animals. The awareness of emissions in animal husbandry is growing from year to year, as is the demand for organic products.

Animal products and products should therefore meet newly optimized animal welfare standards, generally comply with the highest standards and offer producers a plannable competitive advantage through animal welfare management. ISO/TS 34700:2016 is intended to provide an effective, up-to-date standard for this purpose. The standard is aligned with the principles of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the Terrestrial Animal Health Code (TAHC). (Source: International Organisation for Standards)
