Innovation park creates major economic benefits
The Zurich Innovation Park is currently being built on the site of the Dübendorf airfield. A study has now for the first time examined the economic significance of the park for Zurich and Switzerland as a business location.
With the Innovation Park More than 10,000 jobs will be created on the site of the Dübendorf airfield. The economic effect for the canton of Zurich is estimated at around CHF 2.4 billion per year. This is the result of a study by the Swiss Institute for Economic Research BAK Economics on behalf of the Zurich Innovation Park Foundation.
The canton's Department of Economic Affairs was pleased with the results. According to the study, the Zurich Innovation Park will help to tap the existing research and innovation potential even better. In particular, the planned increased cooperation between companies and research institutions could become a major locational advantage for Zurich, it says.
Strengthening Zurich as a business location
With the above-mentioned added value and the many new jobs, the Innovation Park will significantly strengthen Zurich as a business location. Carmen Walker Späh, Director of Economic Affairs, feels confirmed by the positive study results: "Innovative strength is the key to growth and prosperity in our canton. The Innovation Park makes a significant contribution to this. That's why we're staying tuned and pushing ahead with the work on the Dübendorf airfield together with all the relevant partners."
A task force is currently working on a synthesis report on the entire airfield site on behalf of the government council. This will be available in the spring and will form the basis for the further transformation of the site, according to a press release from the cantonal Department of Economic Affairs. (rs)
