First VDE certification for "Eye Care" in the industry

The supplier Samsung has received the first "Eye Care" certification from the Association of German Electrical Engineers (VDE) for its Neo QLED 8K and 4K models of the current 2021 line-up. This makes them among the first TVs to be awarded the certificate.

All Samsung 2021 QLED models that passed the test (QN900A, QN800A, QN90/95, QN85, Q80, Q70 and Q60 model series, received the comprehensive "Eye Care" Certification. This includes "eye safety", "eye protection", flicker level according to IEC standard, uniformity (according to ISO) and color fidelity ratings according to IDMS standard.

Safety and protection for eyes

The Safety for Eyes certification is awarded to products whose emission values for blue light, ultraviolet rays and infrared rays fall into the so-called "Exempt Group". This classification is made according to the established classification of emission limits by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

The Eye Protection certification attests to a tested device's level of melatonin suppression that meets the standard of the International Commission of Illumination (CIE), Samsung said.

The IEC is an international standards organization that creates and publishes international standards for electrical and electronic products and related technologies. The CIE is the international expert body for light, lighting, colour and colour spaces.

The various Samsung QLED TVs would also be awarded by the VDE certification for meeting the standards for uniformity of picture quality and color fidelity. Both aspects are used in the evaluation regarding the display of content, as communicated.

"Samsung is fully committed to developing products that not only offer excellent picture quality, but are also designed with people and their changing needs in mind," says Dario Casari, Country Manager at Samsung Switzerland.
