GS1 heads for new strategy
The 12th Annual General Meeting of the GS1 Switzerland trade association was dominated by a new strategy and positive annual results for 2016. All statutory business was approved. In the public part, philosopher and physicist Dr Ludwig Hasler mused on the importance of courage, imagination, empathy, humour and passion in everyday work.
Chaired by Robert Vogel, President GS1 Switzerland, the 12th Annual General Meeting took place on 8 June 2017 at the Kultur Casino in Bern. 122 people took part. The main agenda item was the new strategy 2017-2021, which the President presented. An even better customer orientation is the goal here. "We want to align ourselves even more closely with the needs of our main sectors. In the spirit of a common language, the focus is on uniform standards and process recommendations," said Robert Vogel.
New focus on industry
In addition to the previous sectors of consumer goods, health care and transport and logistics, the technical industries have now been added. The work of the trade association is to be based on five elements: Connect - Know - Standardize - Educate - Advise. GS1 Switzerland creates platforms that connect members and networks and thus enable an exchange, the president continued. The association is involved in the development and advancement of global standards and passes on its knowledge in its educational and consulting offerings. The work should be characterized by the values of practical, holistic and future-oriented.
Positive annual financial statements
There were no extraordinary decisions to be taken on statutory business at this year's General Meeting. Nine board members and the president Robert Vogel were confirmed for a further term of office. In his remarks, Nicolas Florin, Managing Director, provided information about the business of the past year and the upcoming activities for 2017. After a 2015 marked by the franc shock, GS1 Switzerland was able to draw an extremely positive balance for the year 2016. For Nicolas Florin, it was the last ordinary meeting.

In 11 years, Nicolas Florin has decisively shaped the trade association and, among other things, significantly advanced the area of healthcare. Robert Vogel paid tribute to his commitment and achievements at GS1 Switzerland in a speech of thanks.
The next Annual General Meeting will be held on 15 June 2018 in Berne.
