First top-level meeting between universities of applied sciences and the world of work on the FH profile

On 13 September 2018, a national top-level meeting of decision-makers from the UAS and the world of work will take place for the first time. The exchange will be based on the newly developed UAS profile, which positions UAS as different but equally important higher education institutions. The event is being organised by FH SCHWEIZ, the umbrella organisation for graduates of universities of applied sciences.

Leaders from universities of applied sciences (UAS) and from the business world will accompany this year's UAS Forum, which is being held in conjunction with SwissSkills. The forum will address the central question of where UASs are positioned today. Among those on site in Bern will be Crispino Bergamaschi (President of the FH Chamber, swissuniversities), Franco Gervasoni (Vice-President of the FH Chamber, swissuniversities), Kurt Bucher (Head of Human Resources, Pilatus Flugzeugwerke AG) and Bettina Kuster (Director of Nursing, University Children's Hospital Zurich).

Compact profile defines the "FH" brand

The basis of the top-level meeting is the FH Profile. FH SCHWEIZ has reworked this in collaboration with personalities from the worlds of business and politics. It defines the most important points of the "UAS" brand. Ten years ago, the umbrella organisation of UAS graduates formulated 13 demands. In the meantime, the UAS landscape has evolved. Certain demands have been met, have shifted or had to be formulated with greater emphasis.

Thus, nine principles were developed, which clearly and compactly depict the characteristics of the UAS, the UAS degree programme and the UAS graduates. This UAS profile provides orientation. "The UAS profile promotes common understanding and formulates requirements for modern education and training at UASs. The aim is to address clear messages to politics, UASs or the world of work. Across all subject areas, the aim is to provide a practical and academically excellent range of education at UAS," says Christian Wasserfallen, President of UAS SWITZERLAND and National Councillor.

Promoting exchange with top-level meetings

The interaction and the direct and personal relationship between UAS and the world of work are central to the UAS profile. That is why FH SWITZERLAND is using the 5th FH Forum on 13 September 2018 in Bern as a kick-off for a regular top-level meeting between the UAS and the world of work. In addition, at the UAS Forum and at SwissSkills 2018, managers will use their own careers to show how a solid education that meets the criteria of the business world leads to success.
