Daimler or BMW, who has better sales? An infographic from Kryptoszene.de (see link below) now shows which developments the two car manufacturers have behind them. It shows that both companies are fighting a duel on equal terms and have the upper hand in certain areas.

Daimler AG's revenue exceeded that of BMW by a full €16.6 billion in the third quarter of 2019. However, the profit advantage (EBIT) is comparatively small at €0.4 billion. Already in 2018, Daimler's revenue was about 71 percent higher than BMW's. However, the ratio between revenue and profit was much more favorable at BMW: the Bavarian car company's surplus amounted to 7.2 billion euros, while its rival from Stuttgart generated a profit of 7.58 billion euros.

Daimler is also just ahead in terms of vehicles sold. In addition, the Stuttgart-based automotive group has a higher research budget: Daimler invested $7.1 billion here in 2018, while BMW invested $5.9 billion. Nevertheless, BMW filed 1,752 patents in the same year, 193 more than Daimler.

Furthermore, Daimler shares enjoy the greatest popularity in Germany. The Kryptoszene infographic shows that Daimler shares are the second most frequently held in German portfolios. BMW ranks only twenty-first in this regard. Despite all the challenges on the automobile market: within the last ten years, Daimler's stock market value has increased by around 29 percent. In the same period, however, BMW shares climbed by 127.7 percent.
