Switzerland is well networked as an innovation location
International cooperation continues to gain importance for innovation, shows a report by the World Intellectual Property Organization. It highlights Switzerland as a well-connected innovation centre and Zurich as an ideal location for research-intensive corporations.
Where does Switzerland stand today in terms of innovation and international cooperation? The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has the "World Intellectual Property Report 2019" has been published. In it, it examines patents and research submitted worldwide.
The report shows that more and more international cooperation is taking place in the field of innovation. According to WIPO, large innovation clusters are concentrated in just a few countries. For example, about 69 percent of all patents originate from around 30 innovation hotspots.
Switzerland is counted in the report as one of the very well networked innovation centres. In contrast, Korea and Japan, for example, are less strongly networked with other hotspots.
Economic agglomerations
WIPO highlights in a Media release to the report also points out that multinational companies often locate their research and development departments in centres where specialists with specific knowledge and skills are concentrated.
As such a centre, Zurich is also regarded as one of the important research locations of Google mentioned.
From Switzerland, Bern is also highlighted in the report. Bern is seen as an example of a smaller city that is highly innovative. Stavanger in Norway, for example, is also such a city.
