Legal tech startup Legartis selected for "startup highway" by leading automakers
Legartis announced its selection for participation in the "Startup Autobahn" program. This accelerator is Europe's largest innovation platform and connects industry-leading companies with promising technology startups. Legartis qualified for the 6th program of Startup Autobahn together with 30 other technology startups out of more than 500 applicants.
Based on artificial intelligence (AI), the Zurich-based legal tech startup Legartis is already reviewing contracts up to 40 percent faster than before. It offers new ways of organising and analysing large volumes of data from legal documents. The Legartis AI provides a comprehensive insight into the content of different types of contracts in German and English in a matter of seconds.
Over the next three months, the Swiss startup will be working in the accelerator with leading car manufacturers, among others, to accelerate the digitalization and automation of contract management.
"The legal tech revolution has arrived and is no longer just exciting the technologically curious. The decision to evaluate Legartis AI as part of Startup Autobahn is an impressive testament to the power of our development, and one we are very excited about," said David Bloch, Co-Founder and CEO of Legartis. "Startup Autobahn's industry partners now have access to an innovative legal tech solution that will make in-house legal work easier, more efficient and more effective in the long term."
Program 6 of Startup Autobahn will end in July 2019 with the Expo Day, where Legartis and the other program participants will present their results.
Legartis was founded by Swiss lawyer David A. Bloch and German lawyer Marc von Samson-Himmelstjerna, formerly head of the legal departments of eBay and Groupon in Europe and Asia. Together with computer scientist Michael Fetzer (among others Lead Engineer at SBB) and computer linguist Dr. Don Tuggener they built Legartis. In addition to the two founders, Dr. Karim Maisar, partner and head of the startup desk at the major Swiss law firm Kellerhals Carrard, and Dr. Thomas Dübendorfer, entrepreneur and president of the Swiss ICT Investor Club, sit on Legartis' board of directors.
The company secured one million Swiss francs in its first round of financing. Its development work with innovative technology solutions has been funded by the Swiss Commission for Technology and Innovation - CTI (now "Innosuisse"), among others, since the end of 2017 for a research project with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW. Since 2018, the EU Commission has been funding the legal tech startup as part of the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. Legartis has received several awards, including Bilan's Top50 Startups to invest, Top60 W.A. Vigier Award and Red Herring Top 100 Winner.
