Optimized, intelligent water supply
Water is a raw material of fundamental importance. Such a raw material would have to be treated with a great deal of prudence and care. Nevertheless, a lot of water is also lost, for example through burst pipes. In addition, the infrastructures of the utility companies are often outdated. VonRoll is now setting new standards with the "Internet of Water", an intelligent supply network.
Not only good advice, but also good water is expensive. It is not only in the summer months that clean drinking water becomes scarce in many parts of Europe. The new sensitivity surrounding water as a resource is reflected in an increasing density of regulations aimed at protecting this raw material. Water utilities are primarily addressed when it comes to questions of sustainable water use.
"While quality parameters in drinking water were once only measured in the raw water and in the waterworks (e.g. after treatment), today the data of the complete infrastructure up to the house connection are of interest and importance," vonRoll states in a press release called "Internet of Water". Pipes, armatures, hydrants and cast components that are interconnected are used by companies such as the vonRoll-infratec Group or smaller companies such as SUMEC AG in the forefront when it comes to controlling water quantities and pressures based on consumption.
Internet of water
Water is heavy. It takes a lot of energy to pump water out of the ground and into the supply network. The energy used for water supply accounts for 3 to 4.25 percent of total energy consumption worldwide. 25 to 30 percent of operating costs are incurred only for water supply or treatment (source: EPA, United States Environmental Protection Agency and ES-MAP, Energy Sector Management Assistance Program).
With the new and highly innovative "Internet of Water" products and services, vonRoll Hydro brings intelligence to the supply network. This means that almost every interface between the source and the end user can be taken into account for control and data acquisition. Thanks to state-of-the-art sensor technology, data transmission technologies and visualization tools, the Solo-
thurner Group has a supply network from A to Z.
