Networked for better performance - also in quality management
Nothing is subject to such rapid development as the technologies in the areas of communication, energy and transport. It is therefore also important for the internal organisation to always think one step ahead. The company cablex has implemented the integration of a management system so consistently that a dynamic information system has been created which grows organically with its expanded requirements.

These sustainable, business-defining corporate values led cablex to define processes and procedures early on in order to obtain ISO certifications in quality, environmental and safety management. As a total contractor, cablex is a leader in the construction and maintenance of high-performance, nationwide network infrastructure solutions in the fields of communications, energy, transport and ICT. More than 1,000 employees, spread across 20 locations throughout Switzerland, combine engineering and application expertise.
Minimum requirements are no longer sufficient
After successful certification, cablex discovered that the use of process flows could not be carried out efficiently on a day-to-day basis. What was initially intended as a minimal solution for process and document management could no longer meet the increasing requirements of users and customers. In particular, there was a lack of system-supported, central management of objects by means of workflow and versioning, as well as user-friendly handling and checking mechanisms to ensure that the data maintained in the system was up-to-date.
Integrated management system to promote data consistency and efficiency
A solution was therefore sought that could also integrate existing systems and data and enable efficient use both in-house and for external operations. This was to be realised with an integrated management system (CIS - cablex Information System). The following requirements were prioritised:
- Intranet as a component
- Direct links to third party systems
- Interfaces to SAP modules, function and competence profiles with master data management
- Maintaining, versioning and archiving processes, documents and templates in all national languages
- Structural rights and user administration (access authorizations)
- Efficient search (user should find the searched object after maximum 3 clicks)
- Navigation adapted to user needs and intuitive
Flexible management system as a basis
With IMS PREMIUM from IMS Integrierte Managementsysteme AG, the right quality management software was found, which, due to its high degree of configurability, offers the diverse requirements and the desired individualization.
The web-based solution only requires a web browser and Internet access for use. This enables the decentralized capture and processing of content without the need for a local software installation on the user's premises. The result is standardized processes and documents that are managed according to the guidelines by means of workflow.
Efficiency and effectiveness are the basis of the management system
can be controlled and managed. Automatic control and monitoring functions with reminder e-mails help owners to comply with inspection intervals and thus to keep the management system up to date at all times.
The possibility of integrating corporate design and the flexible third-party system connection
were also decisive factors in the choice of IMS PREMIUM. They ensure a high level of acceptance among users and enable efficient work in the networked system landscape
Results of the optimization
Today, service provision at cablex is completely process-oriented and process-controlled. The processes are designed in such a way that they take into account all individual customer needs.
Efficiency and effectiveness are the basis of the management system. With the help of consistent use by employees, it was possible to achieve a high quality content of processes and documents. User acceptance, which was promoted by the simplified and customizable use in everyday life, can therefore also be named as a key to success.
The customized start page makes a significant contribution to this. For example, it offers users the option of calling up their top 10 elements in processes or documents directly from the program start page. Simple search functions, third-party systems or news articles about cablex can also be accessed from the start page.
With new ideas into the future
The management system is to be used increasingly in mobile use in particular. To this end, optimizations for use with iPads will be further expanded. In addition, usage data from certain processes and documents will be evaluated in order to discover potential and further improve the quality of the integrated management system. Being able to count on flexible and expandable software is crucial for cablex.
