Test device for process pumps

Lewa GmbH, based in Leonberg (DE), has set up a newly designed process pump test room. This has created the best possible conditions for new product developments. Now prototypes of process pumps as well as individual assemblies - such as pump heads or drive units - can be completed and validated.

The previous test facility was getting on in years and was therefore completely renovated and technically brought up to date. Now, both the test operation of the machines in continuous operation can be secured and the necessary database can be created, which is required for analyses during the product development process.

In addition to the high functional density, the facility is characterized by a consistent system integration of process, drive/automation and measurement technology.

Frequency converter technology
Motors with an electrical connected load of over 500 kW can be used as pump drives. Regardless of the load curve and the type of electrical machines used, the use of modern frequency inverter technology ensures that the drive train operates without feedback from the mains. Due to the liquid-cooled power electronics, the environment around the test field also heats up only slightly.

Higher test capacity
To improve the accuracy of the results, the sampling rate has been significantly increased. If limit values are exceeded, the integrated monitoring function sounds an alarm and, thanks to direct communication with the drive unit, leads to the correct and safe shutdown of the motor under test. In addition, a range of additional data is available compared to before. All measured values are stored synchronously so that they can be used for further analyses and as a basis for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance systems.

Reduced susceptibility to interference
In order to ensure the reliability and robustness of the products at the customer, the long-term behaviour can also be investigated in endurance tests with different diaphragm materials or clamping methods.

The completely new low-voltage system with its own medium-voltage transformer ensures a trouble-free supply of the test objects and equipment.
